what we keep, and why.

Read Gently is operated by BrandBox LLC ("we", "us"). We collect what we need to keep your spot in a book and nothing else we can avoid. We don't sell your data. We don't run ads. We don't profile you for an algorithm.

Account information. When you sign in, our authentication provider (Clerk) records your email address, your name if you provided one, and an identifier that ties your sessions together.

Reading activity. For each book you open, we store your current chapter, your position within it, the time you've spent reading, and any private margin note or rating you choose to add. This is the data that lets us show you "continue from 23%."

Onboarding preferences. The rooms you picked at sign-up, and the optional answers about a book you loved or one you set down.

Recap and librarian queries. When you tap "catch me up" or ask the librarian for a recommendation, the request is sent to our model provider (Anthropic) to generate a response. We cache the result so repeated requests don't hit the model again.

Standard server logs. IP address, user agent, and request path, kept briefly for security and debugging.

No advertising IDs. No location data. No microphone or camera access. No cross-site tracking pixels. No selling lists to brokers. We don't use localStorage for tracking — the only data persisted to your device is your reader theme and font-size preference.

We use a small set of vendors to run the service. They see only what they need to do their job:

• Clerk — authentication and session management.
• Anthropic — the language model behind "catch me up" and the librarian. We don't train models on your data, and our provider doesn't either.
• Cloudflare R2 — storage for book content and cover images.
• Vercel — hosting for the frontend.
• Google Analytics — anonymous, aggregated traffic measurement on the marketing site.

Reading progress and notes stay until you delete them or close your account. Cached recap and librarian responses age out on their own. Server logs are retained for a short window and then dropped.

When you ask us to delete your account, we remove your progress, notes, ratings, preferences, and account record. We keep a minimal accounting trail only where law requires it.

You can read, edit, or delete your reading data at any time from inside the app. To request a copy of your data or to delete your account, email parth@brandboxai.app.

If you live in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or California, you have the legal rights you'd expect: access, correction, deletion, portability, and the right to object to processing. Email us and we'll honor those requests.

Read Gently isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has signed up, email us and we'll remove the account.

If we change anything material, we'll update the effective date at the top of this page and, if the change affects you in a meaningful way, send you a note before it takes effect.
